From 1977 to 2005 the growth of for-profit education has greatly outpaced traditional non-profit education. Because non-profit tuitions have continuously outpaced inflation, for-profit schools have become increasingly viable alternatives. Additionally, for-profit schools have pursued aggressive growth strategies, expanding beyond 2-year colleges and vocation training and breaking into the traditional 4-year degree market.
